Our Computing Curriculum

 Intent

At Maple Grove Primary School, our Computing scheme supports our planning and teaching, ensuring the delivery of high-quality Computing lessons across the school, from EYFS to Year 6.

Our Computing scheme aims to foster a sense of enjoyment in using technology while developing children’s appreciation for its capabilities and the opportunities it provides for creating, managing, organizing, and collaborating. We encourage tinkering with software and programs as part of our ethos, helping children build confidence when encountering new technology—an essential skill in our rapidly changing technological landscape. Through our curriculum, we aspire for pupils to be digitally competent, possess a range of transferable skills suitable for future workplaces, and to be responsible online citizens.

The scheme of work enables pupils to meet the end-of-Key Stage Attainment targets outlined in the National Curriculum, aligning with its objectives. We implement this alongside our RSE & PSHE scheme, which fulfills the objectives of the DfE’s Education for a Connected World framework. This guidance is designed to equip children for life in the digital world, helping them understand appropriate online behavior, copyright issues, discerning information online, and promoting healthy use of technology.

Our Computing program supports our efforts to meet the aims of the National Curriculum and the objectives of the DfE’s Education for a Connected World framework.

Additionally, our KS2 online safety leaders promote online safety at Maple Grove by raising awareness throughout the school. They deliver workshops and assemblies for younger children, plan Internet Safety Day events, and provide families with information on how to stay safe online.
